The other day when my mother was visiting, she asked me why I enjoy my dogs so much. Well, as I explained to her, my dogs have stuck with me through boyfriends, marriage, divorce, job problems, and other trying times. They have taught me how to make the best of bad situations. As I recited to her some of my reasons for enjoying my dogs, I started jotting them down on paper, and the end result was this list.

Here's why I enjoy my dogs:

1. They always wake up in a good mood.

2. They don't talk to you when you're trying to read.

3. They let YOU decide what to watch on t.v.

4. They don't care if the house is a mess.

5. They don't notice when you put on a few pounds.

6. They don't carry concealed weapons.

7. They never try to blame their gastric disturbances on you.

8. They expect the best of you.

9. They will always forgive you when you don't live up to their expectations.

10. They don't judge you by your appearance or material wealth (unless your wealth involves a pepperoni pizza which will elevate you to demigod status).

11. They're always ready to go for a walk or play with you.

12. They make friends with everyone in the neighborhood which makes it easy for you to become acquainted with your neighbors on either side and down the block and around the corner.

13. They don't complain about eating leftovers.

14. They never criticize.

15. They don't make fun of people.

16. They don't gossip.

17. They are always happy to see you.

18. They are always willing to listen.

19. They are always willing to wipe away a tear.

20. They give you unconditional love.

Except for an occasional indiscretion on the floor and drinking out of the toilet, dogs are just about perfect! Is it any wonder that I enjoy mine so much?
