Now it's time to talk about animal rescue. Let's start off with
a couple facts.
U.S. Pet Ownership -- 63.8 million U.S. households own dogs or cats (Source: Humane Society of the United States, 1993)
12-18 million dogs and cats are taken in by U.S. shelters each year (Source: American Humane Association, 1991-92)
But only approximately 4.2 million dogs and cats are adopted from pet adoption centers each year. That leaves approximately 8-14 MILLION
cats and dogs that are euthanized YEARLY!
"25% of those surveyed said that they would acquire their next pet
from a shelter" -- Source: Humane Society of the United States,
1995
"Many pure-bred dog owners will visit the shelter when choosing their next dog because they think it's the 'right thing to do' "--
Source: Pet Business, Dec. '95
What does this mean to you? Think about going to Animal Control or
your local animal shelter when the time comes to have a pet join your family. Do a lost soul some good and save them from Death Row.
Here is a collection of stories and articles--some I've written, others are from different authors.
